history
After many years of treating cancer, professionals caring for oncology patients recognized there was a
need to help patients and cancer survivors by more than simply treating the disease. There was a strong
sense that more could be done to aid patients and their families through the process of treatment and
survival. For seldom is the patient the only one undergoing a change. Often, family, friends and
co-workers are affected. Who is helping them through this process? Who is educating them about the
disease and teaching them how to cope?
Out of this concern and desire to do more for his patients and their families, Dr. Silas Charles started the Cancer Care Centers Foundation (CCCF) in 1993. Created as a non-profit organization, CCCF began providing comprehensive patient/family support services, community outreach and education.
In 2004, we received Florida Today’s Volunteer recognition Award as the "Organization of the Year". CCCF continues today to assist thousands of families in their battle against cancer.
